M. Anthony ("Tony") Brown is a partner and the Administrative Chair of JMBM's White Collar Defense & Investigations Group which is recognized by U.S. News & World Report / Best Law Firms® with a Metropolitan First Tier ranking.

Tony represents corporations, boards of directors, management, and individuals in connection with government investigations, enforcement actions, remediation and compliance, administrative proceedings, internal investigations and white collar criminal investigations and prosecutions.

A former Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Central District of California, Tony has investigated and tried cases involving mail, wire, and bank fraud, drug trafficking, human trafficking, child sexual exploitation, and violent crimes. Tony’s cases, many of which involved crimes committed over the Internet, frequently relied on complex computer forensic evidence and implicated cutting-edge Fourth Amendment issues concerning computer privacy.

As a federal prosecutor, Tony handled close to 50 appeals and ten oral arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, including the only appeal from a federal death sentence in the Central District of California. In private practice, Tony has handled a broad range of civil matters, including appeals before the Ninth Circuit, the California Supreme Court, and the California Courts of Appeal.

Tony's wide-ranging experience in both civil and criminal matters, at both the trial and appellate stages, makes him a uniquely qualified trial attorney, trial consultant, appellate advocate, and advisor for clients and their businesses as they seek to comply with government regulations and conduct internal investigations.

Tony received his J.D. from UC-Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law. He clerked for the Hon. James R. Browning of the Ninth Circuit. Before embarking on his legal career, Tony completed a Ph.D. in English at UC-Berkeley and taught Expository Writing at Harvard University.
